FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. – The Truro Bearcats came up against a tough Manitoba team in their opening game of the 2018 18U National Championships being held in Fort McMurray, Alta.

Manitoba scored nine times in the third inning en route to an 11-2 victory over the Bearcats.

Today at 3 p.m. (AT) Truro meets the Alberta entry.

The Bearcats managed just four hits against Manitoba, coming off the bats of Connor Angers, who had a pair of singles, Luke Smith, who doubled and Nate Stone who added a single.

Chad Russell took the loss on the mound.

Following their game with Alberta later today, the Bearcats are slated to see action twice Saturday. At 11 a.m. (AT) they will face Etobicoke from Ontario, and at 5:30 p.m. (AT) they take on the host Fort McMurray team, after which teams will advance in the playdowns based on their records.
