Upper Brookside's Brown signed by ECHL’s Eagles

TRURO, N.S. – Matthew Brown, of Upper Brookside, has inked a professional hockey contract with the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL.

The Eagles are the affiliate team of the Colorado Avalanche.

Brown, a five-foot-11, 190-pound winger, was signed to a standard player contract.

Brown, 26, made his debut with the Eagles last Sunday – a 3-2 overtime win against the Alaska Aces.

Brown played previously at the Canadian university level for the Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary for five seasons. He compiled 51 goals and 42 assists in 110 games and served as the team’s captain during his final three seasons.

Brown is also a former Quebec major junior league player for the Moncton Wildcats and Quebec Remparts. He also spent a season in the BCHL with the Cowichan Valley Capitals where he scored 32 goals and added 31 assists in 50 games.

Colorado leads the ECHL’s Mountain Division with a 41-15-2-3 record before Friday action.

Brown joins Dana Fraser of Tatamagouche in the ECHL. Fraser is a centre for the Adirondack Thunder. In 39 games this season, Fraser has five goals and four assists.

The Thunder is affiliated with the NHL’s Calgary Flames.

Adirondack is fourth in the North Division with a record of 31-19-6-4.
