Bearcats winning streak snapped by Blizzard

TRURO, N.S. – The Truro Bearcats had a five-game winning streak in the Maritime Junior Hockey League come to an end on Friday.

Alexandre Jacob of the Blizzard celebrates after scoring the winning goal on Kevin Resop early in the third period of Friday’s game at the RECC.

The Bearcats were edged 3-2 by the unbeaten Edmundston Blizzard in front of a crowd of 700 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

Alexandre Jacob’s goal just 28 seconds into the third period snapped a 2-2 tie and the Blizzard hung on to win their seventh straight game to start the season.

Kyle Ward and Jeffrey Akerley had other Edmundston goals.

Campbell Pickard had a goal and an assist for Truro, while Gavin Hart also scored and Dylan Burton had two assists.

Bearcats goaltender Kevin Resop made 29 saves, while Francis Asselin faced 25 shots between the pipes for the Blizzard.

Truro heads to Yarmouth on Saturday for a game against the Mariners.
