TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars girls basketball team returned from provincials in Sydney Mines with a bronze medal.

The Cougars topped the Lockview Dragons 67-57 in the third-place match, held at Memorial high school.

The boys team finished sixth after falling 99-68 to the Horton Griffins in the fifth-place matchup. Their provincial tournament was held at Citadel high in Halifax.

For the girls, the medal was a little consolation after the Cougars were nipped 57-56 by the Griffins in the semifinal of the three-day event. Horton scored the winning point with 15 seconds remaining, snatching the lead from the Cougars.

Cobequid opened the event with a 69-64 win over the host Memorial Marauders.

In boys play, the Cougars defeated Sydney Academy 75-69 in the consolation semifinal after falling 90-79 to the Prince Andrew Panthers in their opening game.
