TRURO – The Truro Bearcats look to inch closer to a first-round playoff victory Thursday when they host the Kentville Wildcats for Game 3 in a Maritime Junior Hockey League Eastlink Division semifinal series.

Bearcats vs. Wildcats.

Game time at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre is 7 p.m. Game 4 will be played Saturday at the Kentville Centennial Arena at 7:30 p.m.

The Bearcats lead the best-of-seven series 2-0 and have clearly been the better team. They enter tonight’s contest after a 7-1 triumph on home ice in Game 1 and a 5-2 victory on Tuesday in Kentville in Game 2.

“I think we just have to keep doing what we’re doing and stick to our game plan,” said Bearcats captain Phil Fife.

That game plan consists of jumping on the opposition early and getting the puck deep in an effort to put pressure on the Wildcats defence, said Fife.

After being outplayed in every aspect in the opening game, the Wildcats rebounded for a grittier performance on Tuesday night. Fife said he expects the opposition to continue that tonight, and the Bearcats can’t afford to take them lightly.

“I think that every playoff game is a totally new game and every game’s gonna be tough.”

The Bearcats realize they have an opportunity take a stranglehold on the series, and a quick start would be beneficial, said coach Shawn Evans.

“Every playoff game is important but Game 3 is always a real important one. We need to get off to a good start at home as we did in Game 1.”

Evans said he won’t make any lineup changes for tonight’s tilt.

– Truro Mayor Bill Mills has a wager with Kentville Mayor David Corkum on the series. The mayor of the losing team will have to wear the winner’s jersey for a day.

“He started it, and I warned him – I said, ‘I don’t know if you want to go there,’ Mills laughed. “And he said I was chicken, so I said, ‘you’re on.”’

Mills said he’s confident he will be presenting Corkum with a Bearcats jersey real soon.
