Hobson, Joseph Ernest (“Ernie”) – 71, Green Oaks, Nova Scotia, slipped away quietly on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Ernie was born in Truro on February 15, 1946, the youngest child of Joseph and Gladys (Phillips) Hobson. He was a life-long resident of Green Oaks, where he was a member of Clifton Federation of Agriculture and the sixth generation to work the family’s Hobson Creek Farm. Ernie also worked as a foreman for the Extension Agriculture Engineering Division of the Nova Scotia government for 40+ years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working the land. Ernie is survived by his wife, Donna (Dearmond) of 47 years; his daughter, Heather (Mel) of Truro Heights; his son, Daniel (Christina) of Green Oaks; his sisters, Eva Bentley of Toronto and Ethel (Layton) Burris of Hilden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his furry companions, Penny and Ted. He is predeceased by his parents; sister, Lillian of Middle Stewiacke; and brother, Charles of Green Oaks.Visitation, funeral service and reception will all be held at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. The visitation will be held on Monday evening, February 12 from 6pm to 8pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 13 at 2pm, with reception to follow. Reverend Dan Gunn will be officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Fisher Creek Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Colchester Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), or to a charity of your choice.
