To the people of Colchester County:
It’s a month on from the 2018 Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships and DSS-GB (Down Syndrome Swimming Great Britain) are still reliving the memories.
Swimmers, coaches, parents and supporters from the U.K. would like to voice their heartfelt thanks to the people of Truro and the wider community of Colchester County, who truly embraced the event and contributed so much to the smooth running of the competition.
So many members of the community played their part: the staff of Rath-Eastlink Community Centre, Nick Sharpe and Tanya Colburne, co-chairs of the local organizing committee and their army of volunteers who helped out with organization, administration, officiating, catering etc., the bus drivers, staff at the Glengarry Best Western Hotel and local sponsors, to name but a few.
Special mention must, however, go to Matthew Hunter and his father Jol, who initially suggested the idea of bringing the Championships to the Rath-Eastlink Community Centre.
Right from the start we were made to feel welcome. The attitude of the Truro community was one of true inclusion, celebration and recognition of our athletes’ ability, not their disability.
Your commitment and effort helped us to make memories that will live with our swimmers and their families forever, and for that, we are truly grateful.
