People were raising their hands in the air and cheering Thursday evening, when they heard Colchester County's proposed kennel bylaw had been defeated.
While as many people as were allowed went inside council chambers for the August 30 meeting, several people remained outside, standing at the corner of Queen and Church stands with signs they held up for passing motorists to read. Drivers blew their horns in support throughout, drawing cheers from the protesters.
When protesters received a message saying the proposed bylaw had been defeated there were cheers and big smiles.
"The bylaw unanimously is dead," Steve MacIntosh, one of the organizers of the opposition group, announced after coming out of the meeting.
He said the issue will now to the public advisory committee, and the group has been invited to give input in creating a new bylaw.
