Salmon River Fire Department was paged just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday and called for mutual aid from the Bible Hill and Valley Kemptown departments.

Salmon River fire chief Blaine McNutt says the fire started around the wood furnace in the basement of the two-storey home.

“We had a quick response and we were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly,” he said. “The fire started around the wood furnace in the basement. That happens sometimes. The home suffered only minor damages.”

The road through Murray Siding was closed for about an hour just past the Valleydale Road while firefighters worked on extinguishing the fire and removing smoke from the house.
