GREENFIELD, N.S. - More than $500,000 in damage to heavy equipment was discovered late Sunday night after police responded to a mischief complaint at a gravel pit in Greenfield.

Three people were arrested after the Colchester District RCMP used a police dog team to track them down in the nearby woods.

The three, a 19-year-old man from East Mountain, a 16-year-old male from Greenfield and a 17-year-old male from Onslow Mountain were held in custody overnight and were scheduled to appear in provincial court in Truro on Monday.

Police said the gravel pit property was entered via Greenfield Road and a rock crusher and front-end loader were destroyed. In addition, an excavator had its windows broken, and another loader had severe damage to the cab. A weigh-scale, scale house and portable toilet were also destroyed.
