Steele is to provide commentary and analysis for CBC News Nova Scotia, the CBC Radio current affairs programs and online, beginning this week.
The former MLA recently took part in CBC News Nova Scotia’s extensive team coverage on election night. As a panelist he provided live in-depth analysis as the election results came in during Nova Scotia Votes 2013.
“Graham has a command of Nova Scotia politics and an insider’s view of the process of government,” said Andrew Cochran, CBC’s senior managing director in Atlantic Canada.
“On election night he provided Nova Scotians with clear and insightful analysis of the issues and factors at work, all over the province. He impressed us.”
Steele, who is a lawyer, was elected four times as the NDP MLA for the constituency of Halifax Fairview before deciding not to run in the 2013 election. Since 2009, he has served as Minister of Finance, Minister of Acadian Affairs and Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. He was a member of the provincial Cabinet until Oct. 22, 2013.
"I had a lot of fun doing the election broadcast and the viewer response was great," Steele said, in an e-mailed news release. "Now I'm thrilled to have the chance to work regularly with the CBC team, to help Nova Scotians better understand what's really going on in provincial politics."
Steele’s first appearance in his new capacity will be on CBC News Nova Scotia at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
