BIBLE HILL, N.S.

Two cats apparently hunkered down among debris to wait out a recent apartment building fire, only to be found safe, days later.

The fire at the 12-unit building on Brooklyn Drive in Bible Hill, April 27 did significant damage to the top floors of the structure.

Donald Cox, a ground-floor resident of the building had his two cats returned to him later on the day of the fire.

But he said two other cats in a top-floor apartment where the fire is believed to have started, were not found until five days later.

Cox said the cats were found in the apartment, which had been completely burned out, with the roof entirely missing.

“They were hidden in some debris. They had secured themselves to protect themselves,” he said.

A fifth cat was apparently found safe, as well. An onsite employee with Wallace Living, owner of the apartment building, said she watched a displaced tenant happily carry his cat across the property on Friday. That cat, from an apartment in the middle portion of the building, had been missing since the fire.

Owners of those cats could not immediately be reached for comment.
