One woman, who wished to remain anonymous but said she lives behind the house at 492 Pictou Rd. where two women were found dead on Friday afternoon, said the community has traditionally been a safe place.
“It’s startling … this is a community that leaves doors unlocked,” she said on Saturday morning, adding “but nothing surprises me” in the times we live in.
However, she said, “despite what happened, I still feel safe.”
George Jbeili, manager of Ravana Pizza Ltd. on Pictou Road, said his business has often delivered food to people at the residence.
“They seem to be very nice people. For a small community it’s a shock. It’s a very quiet community … there’s never any issue here. It’s not as much scary as shocking,” said Jbeili, who has lived in Bible Hill for eight years.
Bible Hill resident Jim Barry told the Truro Daily News he used to live next door to where the incident happened about five years ago.
“It’s unbelievable. It’s horrible but this time of year there’s stress on people … it’s a sad situation,” Barry said.
RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae told this paper on Saturday morning that the investigation is continuing.
“Right now … we are still on the scene” and a forensics team continues to process the area. A major crime team is also working through the day on the case and RCMP “have not released names and ages” of the people involved in the incident.
Although police would not confirm the identity of the victims, outside sources have confirmed one of the deceased females is Elizabeth MacPherson, a VON nurse.
MacRae confirmed that as of early Saturday a man arrested in connection with the case “remains in serious to critical condition” at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro.
Specific details of the case have not been confirmed by police as the investigation is still underway.
On Friday, police received a 911 call just after 3 p.m. to respond to 492 Pictou Rd. Two females were found deceased and an adult male was taken into custody and transported to Colchester East Hants Health Centre with serious injuries.
