TRURO - Some former high school friends who haven't seen each other in 40 years will reunite here Friday night.
The Class of 1974 reunion will kick off tomorrow with a meet and greet from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Cobequid Educational Centre in the foyer.
"It's a chance to get together with classmates, renew friendships and have some laughs," said Brian Kinsman, a reunion organizer.
The evening event is a fundraiser for the Class of 1974 scholarship fund and tickets cost $10. Activities will include a cash bar, snacks, tours of the school, a silent auction and walk back in time, looking at memorabilia from their school years.
"It's our effort to give something back to the school," said Kinsman.
He said 10 years ago at the group's 2004 reunion, a Class of 1974 Scholarship was established in support of CEC's scholarships and awards program. The scholarship is given on behalf of the Class of 1974 to a graduating student that has demonstrated a strong commitment to their school, either through academics, athletics, or student life. To date, almost $3,000 has been raised.
"This year we hope to raise another $3,000," said the former CEC graduate.
The reunion continues Saturday night at the Truro legion hall with a performance by Horse, a Truro band that was a favourite with classmates through the 1970s.
The Saturday night dance, held as part of the reunion, is soldout, however, anyone who is not participating in reunion activities that wants to see the band can attend a dance hosted by Horse on Friday night at the legion. Tickets can be ordered by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com.
