TRURO- In a bid to raise money for a local charity, a Truro store is hosting a fashion show on April 11.
Karen Baillie, owner of Elegant Steps, is organizing the event this year in support of Central Women’s Resource Centre.
As well as offering a premier viewing of spring fashions, the night’s activities include a full-course meal of chicken, spinach salad and garlic bread, along with a dessert and tea and coffee. The $25 ticket covers the cost of the meal, with the remainder going to the women’s centre.
“It’s a good way to support a good cause,” said Baillie.
Unlike a runway fashion show, Baillie said her fashion show is much more intimate. The models walk around the room interacting with the guests and letting them get a closer look at the season’s fashion.
“It’s really low key,” she said. “They go from table to table.”
The hour-long show is fast paced, with 13 models trying on 90 different outfits. The models are women from the community aged from 30 to mid-70s.
Spring fashions will be shown to remind people the snow will soon be gone.
“We need something nice to look at,” said the business owner.
The event will be hosted at the Railyard Pub (formerly Keggers) at 76 Inglis Pl. at 5:30 p.m.
Baillie has hosted the fashion show for the last five years. The first show only had 60 people attend, last year’s had 200. Baillie is hoping for a similar attendance again this year to reach her goal of $2,500.
People are anxious to buy tickets, said Baillie, so they won’t last long. The tickets arrived in the mail last week and there is already a demand.
“Most people come back each year,” she said.
