Truro festival embraces diverse cultures

TRURO, N.S. – A two-day festival is using music and dance to help Truro embrace its cultures.

The seventh annual Embrace Truro cultural festival will celebrate the diverse cultures of Truro over two days through dance, song and activities.

The festival will kick off with a performance by Ced, Marty & Dave at the Marigold Cultural Centre on Friday.

Ced, Marty & Dave are an award-winning three-piece band from Halifax, whose performances include classic songs by artists like Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton and Howling Wolf recreated with their unique blend of the delta blues, folk and R&B.

The festival continues into Saturday with a day of free performances and activities at the Civic Square.

To start the day off, the Truro Concert Band will perform at 9:30 a.m., which will lead into opening ceremony.

Continuing into the day will be a mixture of dance and musical performances from acts and groups from around the province.

Rounding off the final hour at 1 p.m. will be the Maritime Bhangra Group and the Maritime Centre for African Dance, which will be followed by the closing ceremony at 1:55 p.m.
