May 5-7 Yarmouth Living Show showcasing television personality Damon Bennett

YARMOUTH - It sounds like contractor and television personality Damon Bennett saved the best for last. His speaking engagement at the May 5-7 Yarmouth Spring Living Show at the Mariners Centre will be his first time in the region.

Contractor and television personality Damon Bennett is the guest speaker at the May 5-7 Yarmouth Spring Living Show.

“I’ve been all over Canada and my final destination is the East Coast. I’m just dying to see it,” he said during a phone interview.

You may have watched Bennett on Holmes Makes It Right, Holmes Inspections and Holmes on Homes in the past. His television experience has helped him to focus on what people really want.

“One thing the show really taught me was how to overcome problematic houses that we saw. I think that’s really taught me a lot and it’s what people really want to know,” he said.

He adds that his travels with the show have introduced him to many different forms of construction. He says the climate is becoming more of a factor in design.

“As we go forward in the future we have to be aware of how our climate is changing. We’re experiencing wetter weather, colder winters, hotter summers. How do we treat our houses accordingly? On top of that how do you find the right people to deal with these issues with your houses?”

Bennett says he’s very interactive on stage and that he’ll be listening to what people have to say.

In his personal life, meanwhile, he’s very involved in rescue societies. He owns three dogs, two cats, three ferrets and a lizard, the latter of which was rescued from someone living on the street.

“I didn’t want to see the poor little guy spend the winter on somebody’s shoulder,” he said.

Bennett is a strong supporter of the Canadian Armed Forces and was recently named honorary lieutenant colonel with the 32 Service Battalion out of Downsview, Toronto.

He built an all ranks club at Trenton Airforce base last summer and says it’s the first one of its kind in Ontario.

He owns a “very busy” construction company, building and renovating homes across North America and specializes in carpentry, structural reinforcement and construction coordination.

Over the past 13 years he has appeared on Cityline, CTV, HGTV and DIY.

While his sessions at the home show on Saturday, May 6 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. are open to everyone, visitors with a VIP pass will have access to the meet and greet with Bennett at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Bennett provides tips on many home projects in the DIY section on his website.
