Dave Whitenect, guitarist and lead vocalist for 460 Kustom, said the band's song ‘Kick' is used in the official trailer for an indie American film.
"We found out about a week-and-a-half ago, but it wasn't made public until last Thursday when it was announced," said Whitenect, about Kick's non-lyrical version being used in the trailer for American Backwoods: Slew Hampshire. "It's an indie movie, and we're always hoping for bigger and better things, but we've been told this is a good foot in the door in the industry."
Whitenect said the band has a contact through Chris Bragg, a former Nova Scotian now living in Los Angeles, who had heard 460 Kustom's music.
"He likes our sound and thinks it is worthy of pushing," Whitenect said.
Bragg does original music sourcing for some movies and television shows, and recommended Kick be used for the trailer.
"It's different. This is the third time the song has been used in different contexts."
The first, the musician said, was when the Mustang Group in the United States used the song. The band had hopes it would also be chosen for use in an episode of Sons of Anarchy. And now it's with a horror/slasher flick.
"It's been a little bit of a rollercoaster with this song. For us, it's been the most active single but we're still hopeful some local activity is going to happen, but it's difficult to get it on regular rotation.
Over the holidays, the band took some time off, but they're still working on new material. The musicians hope to resume regular rehearsals in the next month or so, with plans on releasing an album in the spring.
