The First Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival (PIPAF) will take place in Parrsboro from Friday, June 16 to Sunday, June 18, 2017. En Plein Air is a French expression for painting outdoors, in the open air or on location. Plein air is the fastest growing arts movement in North America and the exposure for Nova Scotia through this event is going to be enormous.

This magical place, with dramatic Fundy tides and changing atmospheric conditions, makes for an endless supply of possible painting subjects – every artist’s dream,” said William (Bill) Rogers.

Plein air painting is challenging and enjoyable for artists and popular for onlookers to watch as the artists work. One of the best known local plein air painters is Joy Laking and she is serving on the Acceptance Jury for this competition.

What is the Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival?

It is a supreme painting competition with a number of special events open to the public. Selected artists will paint anywhere in Parrsboro and surrounding area on both Friday, June 16th and Saturday, June 17th. The highlight event will be when 70 canvases go up for public sale the following day and artists are awarded prizes and recognition.
