The nomination period opened on Tuesday and will run until Friday, March 17, with the nomination form found at www.locallovetruro.ca.

After the success of the first Local Love Truro Awards in May 2016, co-founders Samantha Madore and Michelle McCann look forward to taking what they learned during the nomination process last year and making some changes.

“We've changed it up a bit this year,” says McCann, owner of Bold and Italic Social Communications. “There’s a month-long nomination period … followed by a voting period starting in early April. We hope it will broaden our audience and really get people engaged and focused on who they are nominating, and then voting for, for each award.”

Similar to last year, the public is encouraged to nominate individuals or businesses in each of 14 categories, highlighting who and what they love most about Truro. Nominations can be submitted in every category, or just one or two. Repeat categories include Most Loved Customer Service, Most Loved Indoor and Outdoor Space and, a favourite from last year, Most Truro Famous.

There are some new categories this year as well, including Most Loved New Business (a local business open for five years or less) and Most Loved Established Business (a local business open for more than five years).

“There is so much to celebrate in our town and highlighting businesses who have been part of our community for a number of years, as well as those who are just starting out and already making their mark, seemed like a great addition to this year’s awards,” says Madore, owner of Bliss Productions.

The five finalists in each category, determined by the number of nominations received, will be announced in early April. Soon after, the second round of voting opens and the public will pick their most loved from the top nominees in each category, with the winner being the nominee that receives the most votes.

Voting will continue until Friday, May 5, with the winners announced at the Local Love Truro Celebration on the evening of Thursday, May 25 at the Marigold Cultural Centre.
