PORT HAWKESBURY, N.S. - Ashley MacIsaac's kilt-clad, foot-stomping performance during the opening ceremony of the Vancouver Olympics was so top secret even his mother didn't know about it.
Carmelita MacIsaac, who lives in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., says her son couldn't tell anyone about his high-profile gig, seen by millions of people worldwide Friday.
She said her outspoken son offered no hint of his involvement, though she was aware of a few recent trips he made to Vancouver.
The 34-year-old fiddler from Creignish, N.S., delivered a high-energy performance during the show, which included aboriginal dancers, acrobats and performances by pop superstars Bryan Adams, Nelly Furtado and k.d. lang.
At one point, the fiddler was suspended 15 metres in the air before he returned to the stage to perform his tune "Devil in the Kitchen."
Afterwards, Carmelita MacIsaac said she and her husband received countless phone calls, including one from her son, who asked how she liked the show.

Good for him , he is a awesome fiddler even though he went a little crazy a few years ago which ruined his carrer.
Just shows that he still has his gift ...There were a couple east coasters that night including sarah McLachlan ,even though she likes to think she is from BC !

It's too bad our Tourism department in NS doesn't understand nor even care the whole world still wants to see and hear the musicians at a Cape Breton ceilidh. The Island has been voted a number 1 and 2 place to visit but what do we do ? Oh, we'll cut off the shortest ferry route between a market of over 15 million in Boston and New York to Nova Scotia, and by the way jeopardize every business between Cape Breton and Yarmouth .
