Girls hockey Cougars win, lose, draw at first tourney

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars girls hockey team missed the semifinals of their first-ever tournament on the weekend.
The Cougars were knocked out of the 7th Annual Northumberland Nighthawks Christmas Tournament in Westville after three games and a 1-1-1 record.
Cobequid nipped the Memorial Mystics 4-3 in their final game of the event.
Gillian Manley scored the winner with just over three minutes to play while Tiffany MacDonald, Kate McClafferty and Daina MacEachern rounded out the scoring.
Ali Munroe and Danielle McCully each had two assists with single helpers coming from McClafferty and MacDonald, who was named the Cougars' game MVP.
The Cougars skated to a 1-1 draw with the North Nova Gryphons.
McCully claimed the Cobequid goal on an assist from Munroe and
Kayla Gallagher was excellent in the net and Kay Archibald was named Game MVP for her efforts on defence.
Cobequid opened the tournament with a 2-1 loss to the Cole Harbour Cavaliers.
Raelee Rath did the scoring on a MacDonald assist. Gallagher was named the Cougars' Game MVP.
The Cougars are back in action tonight in Westville for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Nighthawks.
