TRURO - Wallace native John Mattatall and his pairs partner Mylene Brodeur have qualified for Skate Canada's national team thanks to their performance at the BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships on the weekend in
Saskatoon.
Mattatall and Brodeur finished third at the event with 159.85 points after their short (55.63) and long (104.22) programs.
The top five finishers make the national team, which will compete in the ISU World Figure Skating Championships, March 22 to 29 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Quebec's Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison won the event, with Meagan Duhamel and Craig Buntin, also of Quebec, grabbing the silver. The top five was rounded out by Saskatchewan's Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers and Monica Pisotta and Michael Stewart.
Mattatall and Brodeur have also placed fourth at the 2008 Skate Canada International and sixth in the Cup of China in Beijing.
