WENTWORTH - Winter officially arrives today in the Valley of Snow with the opening of the season at Ski Wentworth.
"It's always our goal to be open for the holidays, so we're just thrilled," said Leslie Wilson, Ski Wentworth general manager. "It's going to be an excellent opening day. We have full coverage on our main trail Sissy-Rosebowl and Bunny Hill, plus we'll have a mini terrain park open."
Wilson says the new snow-making system installed this summer for the 2011 Canada Winter Games had a huge impact on the early season opening date. The hill will be hosting alpine and freestyle ski during the Games.
"Our snow-making system doubled this season. We have over 100 snow guns, plus three fan guns. This is a significant amount of fire power," said Wilson. "We're now able to make more snow faster. And that's the name of the game."
Not only did snowmaking get enhanced, so did many of the trails.
Wilson says skiers will be impressed with the improvements to existing trails and the new freestyle ski terrain.
The hill will be open today from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with early season pricing (lift tickets $30 and rentals $20) in effect. Ski and snowboard lesson availability is limited on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information visit
