Cougars finish fourth at Sackville tourney

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth at the weekend's Sackville Kingfishers Invitational boys volleyball tournament.
The Cougars fell in straight sets (20-25, 27-29) to the Halifax West Warriors in the bronze medal match.
Cobequid finished first after round robin play by defeating the Parkview Panthers 25-18, 25-19 and the Lockview Dragons 25-14, 25-14. The Cougars then downed the Citadel Phoenix 25-20, 25-21 in the quarter-final before being upended by the Horton Griffins 26-27, 16-25 in the semifinal.
The Cougars had key contributions from Grade 12 rightside Will Sandeson with 12 perfect passes. Grade 10 libero Logan Baillie made 12 defensive digs and Grade 11 leftside Evan Maynard added seven perfect passes, nine defensive digs and 19 kills.
The Cougars take their 22-14 record into the Northumberland regional championship today at 4 p.m. when they host the rival Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals.
