Truro rink chasing national title

SUMMERSIDE - Colleen Pinkney and her teammates are perfect at the Canadian senior women's curling championship in Summerside.
The Truro rink defeated Alberta 9-2 in seven ends yesterday in the team's only contest of the day. The win improves the team to 3-0 neat the top of the standings with Manitoba (4-0).
Against Alberta, Pinkney scored two in the first, third, fourth and seven ends and added a single in the second. Lead Susan Creelman curled 80 per cent to lead the team, which curled a combined 65 per cent.
The win is the third straight lop-sided victory for the Truro rink, consisting of Pinkney, mate Wendy Currie, second Karen Hennigar and Creelman.
Pinkney opened the tournament with a pair of wins Saturday.
They defeated Quebec 10-2 in an eight-end contest.
Pinkney scored three in the fourth, one in the seventh and two in each of the first, sixth and eighth ends.
Wendy Curry led the team by curling 89 per cent during the game. As a team, the women curled 84 per cent compared to Quebec at 62.
The Truro team then defeated Ontario 8-2, also in eight ends. Pinkney scored three in the seventh and singles in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth ends.
Creelman curled 78 per cent to lead the team, which finished at 68 per cent compared to Ontario at 73. Pinkney plays New Brunswick today at 11 a.m. and Saskatchewan at 7:30 p.m. Playoffs start Friday with the final taking place Saturday.
