Moore named to Canada's men's squad for world championship

TRURO - The only thing better than one gold medal is two.

P.J. Moore will get the chance to add to his collection June 1 to 9 when he suits up with Canada's men's team at the World Ball Hockey Championship in Toronto.

The 23-year-old Lower Onslow native helped Canada's junior squad to a title in Villach, Austria in 2010.

"It feels great to be named to the men's team," Moore, a defenceman, said. "I wanted a chance to make a run for this team after I played for the world junior team and I got it."

Moore, was one of 25 players and staff named to the squad by the National Ball Hockey Association, which expects the team to compete for the top prize again. Moore said although he enjoyed the trip to Austria for the 2010 junior event, he's looking forward to playing for his country in front of home fans this time around.

"Now we're on home soil," he said. "It's going to be hard to do but it'll mean a lot to us."

Moore was also recently bestowed with another honour by the National Ball Hockey Association as he was named one of Canada's top 30 junior players of all time.

"It's a great honour," Moore said. "I had to read through the list a couple of times to make sure it was real. To be put on the list with all of the other great players is a great accomplishment."

The roster included some pretty prestigious company in NHLers Carlo Colaiacovo of the Detroit Red Wings and the Buffalo Sabres Tyler Ennis.

Moore is currently busy patrolling the blueline for the NCAA Div. III Plymouth State Panthers ice hockey team. The Panthers (8-2-0) currently lead the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) standings and are defending conference champions.

Moore has an assist in 15 games this season.
