Superline Cats fourth at provincials

TRURO - The Truro Superline Fuels Bearcats finished fourth recently at midget AA hockey provincials.

The Bearcats dropped a 5-3 decision to the Pictou County Crushers in the bronze medal contest. Patrick Rogers had a goal and an assist for the Cats with Ian Clarke and Dan Elliott also scoring. Lucas Gulliver added an assist. Sebastian Gibson and Stephen Vanier combined to make 17 saves in the Truro net.

The Bearcats were presented with the tournament's fair play award while Patrick Rogers was named the event's most sportsmanlike player. Vanier won the goaltending event at the tournament's skills competition while Clarke took the title in the accuracy shooting event.

Truro also defeated the Western Valley Spartans 5-3, lost 4-2 to the Antigonish Bulldogs and fell 7-1 to the Sackville Flyers.

In other recent action the Bearcats defeated the East Hants Penguins 5-3 and the Petitcodiac Flyers 4-3.

Clarke had three goals and an assist to lead the Bearcats against East Hants while Connor Rogers and Elliott also scored and Vanier made 19 saves.

Gulliver, Elliott and Rogers led the charge against the Flyers with a goal and assist each. Zach Gate also scored. Gibson and Vanier combined to make 32 saves.
