TRURO – The Cobequid Cougars need a win tonight to advance to Sunday’s high school girls’ hockey provincial final.
The Cougars dropped a 3-2 decision Saturday to the C.P. Allen Cheetahs for their first loss of the eight-team tournament in Westville. But CEC (2-1) still qualifies for tonight’s semifinal as the second seed in its four-team division. The Cougars will play Dalbrae Academy at 8 p.m.
The final is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cougars boys have been eliminated from contention at the provincials in Antigonish.
After opening the eight-team tournament with a 4-2 victory over Lockview, the Cougars lost Friday’s late game against King’s-Edgehill.
The Cougars dropped a 3-2 decision Saturday to the Sir John A Macdonald Flames leaving them with a 1-1-1 record.
James Shapleigh and Daniel MacKinnon scored for CEC while Graham MacNevin had a pair of assists.
The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday night with Millwood playing Sir John A. MacDonald at 6 p.m. and Lockview playing Dr. J.H. Gillis at 8 p.m.
The final is also slated for a 1 p.m. Sunday start.
