BIBLE HILL - "Ready, set, go" will be the words of the day when the third annual Hubtown Youth Fun Run kicks off May 2 at the Truro Raceway.
In the meantime, "we're still looking for volunteers," said Karen Theriault, spokeswoman for the Colchester East Hants Health Authority, one of the sponsoring partners along with Truro doctors and primary health care.
Students from Primary to Grade 9 are invited to participate in the event, which was created with the specific purpose of encouraging physical activity through a fun exercise.
Last year, more than 800 children participated and Theriault said organizers are hoping to increase that number to 1,000 this year.
Free T-shirts will be handed out to the first 1,000 children to register.
Cost is $2 per person. Snacks and refreshments will be provided following the run and 20 bicycles and helmets are up for draw prize winners.
Past events have been held at the TAAC Grounds in Truro but Theriault said the racetrack was selected for this year's venue because it was deemed to be safer and easier to co-ordinate from. A half lap will be considered suitable for smaller children.
To register for the event, visit www.youthrun.chebucto.org or call 893-1112.

If they promise to keep the prize giveaway part down to less than 2 hours I'll volunteer! :) In all seriousness I'll call to colunteer -- sounds like they really do need the help. My kids had a fun time last year, it really is great community fun! (Where's all the soccer Moms when you need a few to lend a hand?)

I'm so glad they changed the location. My daughter took part last year when she was 5 yrs old and followed the crowd of older kids on to Prince St. I've never been so scared in my life! Glad my husband was there with us to run after her while I stayed with our younger child.
