SACKVILLE - The CC Riders under-16 boys club continued to ride a hot streak last weekend in Sackville, as the team blazed its way to its third championship of the summer.

The Riders opened the tournament with a shutout victory over Antigonish, 3-0, before rolling over East Kings 6-0. Closing out the round robin, the Riders downed the host Sackville under-18 club 4-2.

In the gold medal game, the Riders went head-to-head with Sackville in a hard fought rematch.

Jon VanderKwaak gave the Riders an early 1-0 lead before Sackville evened the score moments later. Jonah Johnson restored the Riders lead just before the end of the half. Despite losing captain Brenden Wheeler and David Bradbury to injuries, the Riders would hang on and Luke MacMillan added another in the dying minutes.

The Riders finished their regular season on Tuesday, unbeaten at the top of the Highland League standings. Provincial playoffs will kick off next week.
