TRURO – Wilson’s Aquatic Centre is bringing a new piece of fitness equipment to Truro in an attempt to expand its services and programs at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

The piece, called a Hydrorider, is a unique aqua bike made for cycling in water. The activity allows users to take advantage of the benefits of exercising in a water environment.

The resistance is determined by four paddle wheels that are adjustable on three levels. The longer the paddle is pulled out, the greater the surface volume of water taken in; hence, the greater the resistance.

The RECC is launching a new instructor-led, 45-minute specialty class using the water bikes on Tuesday, May 20, for anyone 16 and over. Participants can sign up to participate in the class 30 minutes prior to its start at the front desk. With five bikes and five participants per class, it is a first-come-first-serve basis. The class will be held four times a week with a drop-in fee of $7.50. For more information, call the RECC at 893-2224.
