Pye's Bearcats earn peewee AAA provincial berth

TRURO - The Truro Pye Chevrolet Bearcats got hot at the right time.

The Bearcats posted three wins at a recent league championship tournament to earn a berth at the Nova Scotia peewee AAA hockey championship March 14 to 16 in Dartmouth.

The Bearcats entered the six-team tournament as the No. 4 seed, but pulled off upset victories over No. 1-ranked Antigonish Bulldogs and third-seeded South Shore Ice Sharks, before dropping their final round-robin game to the Acadia Axemen.

Their 2-1 record was enough to advance to the semifinal against Acadia they where earned a 1-0 victory on a goal by Luke Fielding with three minutes left in the game. Matt Melanson and Liam Atwater assisted on the marker and Ben Gibbon was player of the game.

The win gave the Bearcats their championship berth, as the top two teams advanced to the Nova Scotia championship.

In the final, Truro lost to the Antigonish Bulldogs.
