New funding announced for elite Atlantic Canadian athletes

HALIFAX - Elite athletes from Atlantic Canada will soon have some additional financial support.

Elevate, a program designed to provide $100,000 in assistance to athletes competing on international stages, was announced by the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic and the Chronicle Herald on Wednesday in Halifax.

Funding for the program will come from Bell Aliant, Killam Properties and the Chronicle Herald.

During the announcement, eight athletes were identified to receive the funding including Alex Duckworth, who competed Wednesday at the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Mark Arendz, Custio Clayton and Jenna Martin among others.
