Elks hammered by Blazers in junior B hockey

SACKVILLE – The Brookfield Elks suffered a 12-2 shellacking from the defending champion Sackville Blazers Monday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

The loss drops the Elks to 5-21-3-2 this season, last in the six-team Fred Fox Division. The Blazers (21-8-0-0) are in first.

Brookfield hosts the fifth-place Eastern Shore Mariners (13-12-2-1) tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Don Henderson memorial Sportsplex.

Matthew Canning scored both Brookfield tallies. Starter Kinnon MacMillan was pulled after allowing five goals on 23 shots while Matt McMinn surrendered seven goals on 24 attempts the rest of the way.

Aaron Meahan led the Blazers with a hat trick and a pair of assists while Cody Peveril, Matthew Arthur and Ryan Davis each scored twice. Single markers came from Brett Arthur, Zach Thomas and Jarrett Johns. Alexander Reynolds made 20 saves for the victory.
