Junior B Elks beaten by Mariners, in Sackville tonight

BROOKFIELD - The Brookfield Elks suffered a 10-2 drubbing from the Eastern Shore Mariners Saturday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

The Elks (5-20-3-2) are last in the six-team Fred Fox Division while the fifth-place Mariners (13-12-2-1) are battling for the division's final playoff spot with the Bay Ducks (16-7-2-0).

Brookfield is in Sackville tonight at 7:30 p.m. to take on the division-leading Blazers (20-8-0-0) before returning home to host the Mariners Tuesday, also at 7:30 p.m.

Connor Hirtle and Ian-O'Brien scored for Brookfield, which got 14 saves from both starter Kinnon MacMillan and backup Matt McMinn.

Former Truro Bearcats member Jordan Cox notched a goal - which turned out to be the winner - and an assist for the Mariners, while Brandon Dorrington made 26 saves in the Eastern Shore crease.
