Rhinos take pair of junior C contests on the road

TRURO - The Fundy MU Rhino Renovations Rhinos posted a pair of wins in their most recent tilts in the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League.

The Rhinos (16-8-1-1) doubled the Barrington Ice Dogs (15-8-0-2) 10-5 after topping the Clare Lions (1-23-0-0) 4-2.

The results push the Rhinos into third in the seven-team league, three points behind the second-place Amherst Colts (18-5-0-1).

The Rhinos host the Sea Dogs again Friday at 8 p.m. at RECC.

Matt Calder led the Rhinos with four goals against Barrington while Perry MacDonald scored a pair. Single markers came from Ben Lynds and Dalton Turner and Devin Vanderkooi and Andrew Roberts collected three assists apiece. Eric Durand was the winning goaltender with 29 saves.

Neil Smith, Calder, Vanderkooi and Turner did the scoring against Clare. Calder added a pair of assists and Dennis Nolan stopped 26 shots for the victory.
