TRURO - Peter Burgess is headed back to the Molson Tankard provincial men's curling championship.
Burgess defeated defending champion Paul Flemming 5-4 in the final of a last-chance qualifier on the weekend at Windsor Curling Club to nab one of three spots available in the tournament, which will be held Feb. 4 to 9 at Halifax Curling Club.
Burgess was joined at the event by his brothers Craig (mate) and Todd (lead) and Jared Bent.
Burgess opened a 2-0 lead by the third end before Flemming tied the game in the fourth. After exchanging points in the fifth and sixth, Burgess scored two in the seventh for a 5-3 lead. Flemming scored one in the ninth.
Burgess started the three-day event with a pair of losses before reeling off three consecutive victories.
Burgess will join Mayflower's Mark Kehoe, Tom Sullivan, John Luckhurst, Mark Dacey and Chad Stevens and Lakeshore's Jamie Murphy and Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc at the event.
