Bearcats fall twice in tough major bantam weekend

TRURO - The Truro Bearcats suffered a pair of losses on the weekend in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

The Bearcats dropped a 4-1 decision to the Halifax Gulls after falling 2-1 to the Halifax Hawks.

The Bearcats (2-22-4) are 11th in the 12-team league, five points clear of last-place Kings (0-23-3). The Gulls (22-5-0) sit second while the Hawks (8-16-4) lie eighth.

Ben Higgins scored the lone Truro tally against the Gulls with help from Alex Hilchie. Jack Lynds made 27 saves in the net.

Against the Hawks, Cameron Patton did the Truro scoring while Reuben MacKenzie picked up the assist. Lynds turned aside 33 shots.

Truro hosts the Cole Harbour Storm (9-16-3) Saturday at 4 p.m. at RECC.
