Bearcats earn silver at Antigonish tourney

TRURO - The Truro Pye Chevrolet Bearcats recently capped an undefeated run with a championship in the Bill Chisholm Memorial Tournament in Antigonish.

The Truro Pye Chevrolet Bearcats recently won the Bill Chisholm Memorial Tournament in Antigonish with a 4-0 win over the Acadia Axemen in the final. The peewee AAA team blanked the Acadia Axemen 4-0 in the final on the back of a pair of goals from Gavin Hart. Calum MacLeod and Riley MacInnis rounded out the scoring while Hart and Liam Atwater chipped in assists and Seth Slater recorded the shutout and player of the game honours.

The Bearcats made the final with a 5-2 victory over the South Shore Ice Sharks. Hart scored twice and added an assist while Randy Milliea and MacInnis also scored. Ben Gibbon was the winning netminder.

Truro finished the round robin with an 8-2 win over the Cape Breton West Screaming Eagles. Hart pumped in three goals and picked up an assist while Konrad Phillips scored two goals and had a helper. MacInnis also scored twice and Jackson Haight notched a single marker. Brody Schmitt (2), Milliea, MacLeod, Keegan Grady and Dante Coulter added assists.

The Bearcats also defeated the Axemen 4-2. Hart had a four-point effort on two goals and two assists with MacInnis rounding out the scoring. Hunter Martin picked up a pair of assists.

Truro opened the tournament with a 5-3 win over the Pictou County Crushers. Hart had yet another two-goal game and added an assist with other goals coming from Coulter, Schmitt and Matt Melanson.

The Bearcats are back in action this weekend in a home-and-home series with the South Shore Ice Sharks.
