Elks beaten by Mariners in junior B hockey

BROOKFIELD – The Brookfield Elks were handed a 7-3 setback by the Eastern Shore Mariners Tuesday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

The result pushes the Elks (5-15-2-1) further into the Fred Fox Division basement, eight points behind the fifth-place Mariners (10-10-1-0).

The Elks aren’t back in action again until next Tuesday when they host the East Hants Penguins (11-4-1-1) at 7:30 p.m.

It was the second loss to the Mariners in as many games for the Elks after falling 11-1 on Saturday.

Ian O’Brien, Mitchell Scott and Zach Coates provided the goals for Brookfield. Connor Hirtle chipped in a pair of assists and Scott picked up another.

Brandon Archibald suffered the loss in a 42-save effort.

Tyler Boudreau made 49 stops for the win and got help with goals from former Truro Bearcats junior A player Jordan Cox (2), Tim Mannette, Connor MacDougall, Kory Tate, Matt Sampson and Dominic Howell. Mannette added three assists and Cox had two.
