Cougars girls keep winning with Sydney tournament title

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars continued their early-season roll on the weekend by winning the 13th annual KJ Memorial high school girls basketball tournament in Sydney.

The Cougars defeat the Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals 56-43 in the final.

Brooke Densmore was named tournament MVP and led all scorers with 21 points in the final. Madison Munro drained 19 points.

Cobequid advanced to the final with a 54-42 win over the host Sydney Academy and a 52-29 win over Glace Bay.

The Cougars' stingy defence allowed an average of just 38 points per game.

Cobequid is back on he floor Tuesday at 4 p.m. when it takes on the North Nova Gryphons at 4 p.m. in New Glasgow.
