Kudos and farewell to Mike Smith

I would like to personally thank the Colchester County mayor or all that he has done and has tried to do for our area. I wish to thank him for his efforts with our new elementary school in which he stood up for us as taxpayers when the province said that if we wanted a bigger gym for our kids that we would have to pay for it ourselves.
Smith said no way, the province is responsible for that. If Mike had never spoken out about it we would have had to pay the whole shot.
I wish Mike had of been able to see not only his dream but others as well in receiving a new civic centre during his run. Maybe someone else in the political eye will retire also and then it may happen.
For now Mike, go and enjoy life with your family. You deserve it.

I always find it amusing when people praise Mike Smith for all his great accomplishments.
I also love how people blame Bill Mills for all the failed joint projects.
Mike Smith may have done some great things for us, so has Bill Mills.
Something everyone must remeber is that Councils vote, Mayors don't decide on things. Knowing a little more about the Civic Centre fiasco than most, Mike Smith and the County Council is far more to blame for its demise than anyone.
HOWEVER, both Mayors have done us all a huge injustice and should be held accountable for it. Neither Mayor or Council has done a thing to try and improve relations between the two groups, and this is why all these projects have failed. Canada Games Bid and the Civic Centre to name the two largest.
Now conveniently, Mike Smith is an amazing PR person and close friend of the News Paper so he always has first crack at pointing a finger.
I don't beilieve either council has looked very far past their own personal interests and future careers to do a whole lot for any of us.
I truely hope that a change is coming and we can start moving forward, and improving relations between the two councils should be the first thing on the new Mayors Agenda.
And too the general public, try and find out what your realling talking about before you pass judgement of the people your reading about, and really a news article in the paper just like this letter is just one persons opinion or interpretation.
