It seems our weather has most people either sick with colds and flu, cuddled up at home trying to stay warm or hoping for more snow to go snowmobiling, depending upon the day.
There have been many people in our area who have been ill in hospital or convalescing at home from one ailment or another, whether accident or illness, many thoughts and prayers are being sent your way, I’m sure. Get well soon.
As we think of what we should be doing this time of year as opposed to hibernating for the winter, the skating rink in Five Islands is up and running and better than ever. There is a Winter Carnival scheduled for Feb. 16 with many events including a hockey game, skills competition and refreshments. Check the Five Islands Rink on Facebook for times and details.
There is some great ‘new’ gym equipment at the Economy Recreation Center that is available to anyone interested in a workout.

In conjunction with TOPS, the gymnasium at West Colchester Consolidated School in Bass River has been opened to those who want to go for a walk but don’t want to wear their earmuffs to do so, on Monday evenings 6:30 to 8 p.m. Everyone welcome.
The C@P site continues to be open at the Bass River Elementary School in Bass River. Carly Taggart will be on hand to assist anyone who wants to take advantage of the free Internet access. She can help you navigate your way through or answer any questions you might have.
The C@P site is open Monday, Tuesday and Friday, from 4:30 to 8 pm and Saturday, 11 to 3 p.m.
Students from West Colchester Consolidated School in Bass River who will be travelling to Ottawa this spring are hosting an indoor yard sale on Saturday, Feb. 16 (storm date Feb. 23) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tables will be rented to individuals for $20. Donations are also being accepted for the yard sale. Call 647-3500 for details. Travelling students will also be selling tickets on a bundle of gift certificates, valued at approximately $300, for many businesses/grocery stores/restaurants. The winning ticket will be drawn on Feb. 28.
