Police arrest man wanted on Canada-wide warrant

TRURO - A 48-year-old man from Quebec, who was wanted on a Canada-wide parole warrant, was arrested in Truro Friday afternoon.
The man was wanted in regards to a number of convictions for violence-related offences and had been absent without consent from a halfway parole house in Ontario since August 2009.
"The Truro police and RCMP were advised by Corrections Canada that a person of interest wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation was in our Colchester County area, and as a result of that an extensive investigation involving us and the RCMP resulted in a successful conclusion of the apprehension of this individual," said Truro Police Chief Dave MacNeil.
Police apprehended the man at 1:30 p.m. while the accused stopped his vehicle to use a payphone outside the Needs Variety store and A&W restaurant on Willow Street. A male passenger travelling with the accused was also taken into police custody.
No details on potential charges have been reported because the investigation in ongoing.
