Drop-in knit, crochet group
AUG. 14 – Truro library. 3 to 4:30 p.m. Bring yarn and needles. Patterns and written instructions will be available. For ages eight and older.
AUG. 14 – Truro library. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Learn the basics of Apple’s operating system for an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Space is limited. Registration is required. Call 895-4183 or drop into the library.
AUG. 14 – Young Street Gospel Hall, Truro. 10:30 a.m. to noon. Free coffee, tea and snacks. Everyone welcome. Takes place every Thursday.
Friday night social
AUG. 15 – Royal Canadian Legion Tatamagouche, 5 p.m. until sold out. Barbecue, salad, blueberry desert. The cost is $6 and everyone is welcome.
Open door prayer for the community
AUG. 15 – First Baptist Church, Prince Street, Truro. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Offering personal prayer for people in the community. Wheelchair accessible to the church’s sanctuary.
Teddy bear picnic
AUG. 15 – Truro library. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. For ages three to seven. Bring a teddy bear and enjoy stories and a craft. Registration begins Aug. 7. Limited space. Call 895-1615 to register.

Blueberry crisp desserts
AUG. 15 – Marigold Cultural Centre, Truro. 6 p.m. Kickoff to the Wild Blueberry Harvest Festival. Proceeds for the Bill Rawlinson Memorial Outreach Fund at St. John’s Anglican Church.
Annual river walk
AUG. 15 – Meet at the Foodland in Tatamagouche. 1:30 to 3 p.m. Drinks, snacks after the walk. Wear appropriate footwear.
Lore art show and sale
AUG. 15 – Fraser Cultural Centre, Main Stree, Tatamagouche. Opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Featuring Bonnie Bond, Debbie Cameron, Norene Smiley and more.
Quilt and rug hooking sale
AUG. 15 & 16 – St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill. Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Complimentary blueberry tea. Admission to the sale is $4. Hosted by St. David’s Quilters and Rug Hookers of Northern Nova Scotia.
Blueberry pancake, sausage breakfast
AUG. 16 – Slate Youth Centre, 883 Prince St., Truro. 8 to 11 a.m. Proceeds to help develop and continue youth programs and to support youth trips to Ontario for a national youth conference. Costs are $4 and $6.
Blueberry dessert and salad supper
AUG. 16 – Debert fire hall. 4:30 to 6 p.m. Salads, ham, rolls and blueberry desserts. Adults, $10; children younger than 12, $5. Takeouts available. Proceeds for Masstown United Church.
Royal garden party
AUG. 16 – Hosted by the Colchester SPCA. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Riverfront Park, Truro. Favourite fairy tale princesses will give makeovers, professional stylists will be in attendance. Crown and necklace making stations, cake, treasure hunt and more. Tickets at the Colchester SPCA, Central Nova Animal Hospital and Heavenly Crumbs Bakery. $40 for one princess; $30 for each additional little girl. Rain date: Aug. 17.

Fun day in Brookfield
AUG. 16 – Hosted by the Brookfield Terry Fox Committee. Brookfield Golf Club. Buy a balloon and get the prize listed inside. Free muffins and coffee early in the morning. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Barbecue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Play various games on the course.
Blueberry festival at the market
AUG. 16 – Truro Farmers’ Market. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sample blueberry desserts. Children 12 and younger can enjoy a blueberry scavenger hunt.
