BIBLE HILL – Beginning Friday, 90 4-H members from the Atlantic provinces will converge at the exhibition grounds in Bible Hill for the 25th annual EastGen Showcase.
"The EastGen 4-H Showcase is one of the more anticipated events held annually, and youth are mentored to be future leaders in agriculture,” said Dale MacPhee, EastGen’s regional sales manager.
The company, which develops and markets high-quality genetic technologies, products and services to benefit livestock producers around the world, has been hosting the event for the past quarter century.
The event offers the young 4-H members to participate in two days of training to learn the finer points of dairy and beef calf health and care, as well as the latest techniques in show preparation, display design, and showmanship skills.
“Over the weekend, we really embrace the 4-H motto of Learn to do by Doing and in the process participants develop lifetime friendships," MacPhee said.
Atlantic 4-H beef and dairy members who are 13 to 21 years old are eligible to attend EastGen. Those selected are expected to bring the
information back to their respective 4-H clubs.
4-H members show their own calves at the beef and dairy show at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, in the Agridome at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition grounds. Awards will be presented to the champion presenters and calves, as well as those who excelled in session work.
