The Walk the Walk for Autism gets underway in Victoria Park on Saturday with registration at 9:30 a.m. The opening ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 10:45.
“This event provides an opportunity to create awareness and educate the communities we walk in,” said Cynthia Carroll, executive director for Autism Nova Scotia, in a news release. “The proceeds stay in the communities in which they are raised and support the growth of autism programs and services across Nova Scotia.”
Throughout the province last year, almost 2,000 people participated. The event in Truro this year will run until 1:30 p.m. with games and activities, as well as a barbecue, following the walk.
There will be two distances participants can walk – five kilometres (from the park to Brunswick and Young, Queen Street to Commercial, up to Prince Street and to the Esplanade before returning to the park), and one kilometer (start at park bandstand and complete a loop through the park).
