TRURO - A circular, rainbow-coloured halo surrounding the sun today is not an indication the sky is falling but may mean rain is on the way.
Rainbow ring around the sun today looking to the sky in Truro.
The Truro Daily News received calls from local residents on Friday wondering what change in weather was causing the ring.
According to an online report by Huffington Post explaining the phenomenon, it is called a 22 degree halo or a sun halo, caused by sunlight passing through ice crystals in cirrus clouds within the Earth’s atmosphere.
It has also been referred to as a sun dog.
