TRURO - A Truro man facing multiple drug and weapons charges is to head to trial next January, after entering not guilty pleas this week in provincial court.

Peter George Muise, 48, of 1098 Prince St., Apt. 2, is scheduled for trial on Jan. 13 and 15 on drug trafficking charges involving marijuana and the prescription drug hydromorphone.

He is also facing 10 firearms and weapons charges after 14 switchblade, a loaded .32-calibre handgun, stun guns, brass knuckles and other prohibited weapons were allegedly seized from his residence after police executed a search warrant there in March.

"It's huge for us," said Truro Police Staff Sgt. Randy MacKenzie, of the seizures following Muise’s arrest.

"It's certainly a public safety issue, having someone with access to this many prohibited devices and weapons."
